Felix Wegener founded ZebraZones on a conviction shaped by years in security research: most AI projects fail not because the models are weak, but because the systems around them are. Where the market sells AI as a drop-in replacement for people, ZebraZones treats it as one component in a well-built workflow, with clear boundaries, human review, and business logic that outlasts any single model provider.

He spent four years at OpenZeppelin, one of the most respected names in security auditing, leading teams of security researchers across smart contracts, off-chain infrastructure, and zero-knowledge cryptography, most recently as Security Research Manager for financial institution clients. There he became the go-to person for AI-based workflows, applying them to both the technical auditing process and the business processes around it.

His foundation is in engineering and academic research. At the Horst Görtz Institute for IT-Security at Ruhr University Bochum, Felix conducted PhD-level research in hardware security and side-channel countermeasures, published in peer-reviewed venues, and led funded software projects in Go, TypeScript, and Python. Earlier, as a senior software engineer, he built production web and blockchain applications end to end.

At ZebraZones, Felix leads the technical direction and works directly with clients to identify where AI genuinely improves speed and consistency, and where it does not belong at all. The goal is never AI for its own sake, but durable, secure systems that make teams measurably better at the work they already do.
